Meet Svašek & HKV at Waterbouwdag
Thursday 9 October, the annual Waterbouwdag will take place in the Beatrix Building at Jaarbeurs Utrecht. This year, Svašek Hydraulics will share a booth with HKV. In addition to our presence at the booth, we will also deliver two interesting presentations in the parallel sessions.
In parallel session 1) Young Professionals, around 1:30 p.m., Marloes van den Boomgaard (Svašek Hydraulics) and Annemiek Bekkering (Sailing Innovation Centre) will give a presentation on the added value that hydraulic engineering models offer to elite sailors. Behind the scenes, complex models are set up and validated to predict currents and other conditions as accurately as possible. But how does that theory translate to the water, where decisions are made in seconds? This presentation takes you through three Olympic Games: each time first from the perspective of the models, then through the eyes of an Olympic sailor who experiences it in practice.

At 2:10 p.m., after the short break, in parallel session 5) Resilient Water Engineering (theme of the day), Hermjan Barneveld (HKV) will discuss his research on the summer high water on the Meuse in July 2021, recently published in Nature. Although the peak discharge during that event was only slightly higher than in 1926, 1993, and 1995, the Common Meuse experienced unprecedented erosion of its banks and riverbed. Hermjan unpacks the causes and what we can learn for the future.

It promises to be an inspiring and informative Waterbouwdag. You are warmly invited to visit our booth and/or attend one of the presentations.
