Both HKV and Svašek Hydraulics publish much of our work in professional journals and scientific publications. Each year, all HKV employees vote for “the best article,” and this year, for the first time, Svašek colleagues joined in. This took place during our recent quarterly session at De Veenderhoeve in De Klomp. The award is named after the much-too-early deceased Jan van Noortwijk, HKV’s first employee, first professor, and for many years the leader of HKV’s publication ranking. Together with previous winners, three authors were nominated for their articles.

The nominated articles were:

• Cees Oerlemans with “From flood risk to water labels: how modeling choices propagate,” in H2O-Online, June 18, 2024.

• Floris de Wit with “Wave Shape Evolution from a Phase-Averaged Spectral Model.”

• Joost Pol with “Time-dependent reliability analysis of flood defenses under cumulative internal erosion,” in Taylor & Francis, Structure and Infrastructure Engineering, October 24, 2024.

Each author gave a presentation, and after a single round of voting, one winner emerged with over 50% of the votes. The winner of the 2025 Jan van Noortwijk Award for the best article of 2024 was Floris de Wit. Floris (on the left in the photo) received congratulations and the accompanying cheque from Bas Kolen (HKV Director Research and Development).
