It spreads along seven kilometres of the Indian Ocean coast, at the mouth of the Pungue River.\r\n\r\nThe city of Beira suffers seriously from erosion along the ocean beach. Several existing coastal protection structures are damaged and the risks of flooding of parts of the city are increasing.\r\n\r\nIn the inter-city relationship between Amsterdam and Beira the erosion problems were raised as a main issue in the development of Beira.
