Svašek Hydraulics was asked to determine the morphological developments in the entrance of the Haringvliet by morphodynamic modelling. The animation shows the seabed changes from 1970 to 1986.
The basis of the calculations is a morphological tidal cycle. For each year various wave conditions and sluice discharges from the Haringvlietsluizen were taken into account.
For the modelling FINEL (hydrodynamic and morphodynamic modelling) and SWAN (wave propagation, growth and breaking) were applied. FINEL is (online) coupled to SWAN to take the interaction between waves, currents, water levels and varying bed levels into account. For the morphological simulations sand, silt and sand/silt interaction was applied.
